College
roommates in the late 60’s at Central Michigan University, these three award-winning
teachers have re-connected in their “retirement” to
take literacy on the road. Maroon and Old is a spin-off on their
school colors and chronological age. But, these three ladies are
anything but old!
Eunice Wollin-Crockett has done much of her teaching in American
History and the language arts area with gifted students in Traverse
City, MI. She initiated and led award-winning students to state and
national competitions for National History Day, and she is a founding
board member of the Women’s History Project in Northwest Michigan.
Christine (Nowak) Heerlein has been a reading specialist, language
development teacher, gifted educator and has completed administration
certification in the St Louis, MO area. She has taught all grade
levels and all ability levels.
Anna Unkovich spent 31 years teaching life issues to teens in Michigan,
but her recent “claim to fame” is the release of three
books entitled Chicken Soup for the Soul in the Classroom (Elementary,
Middle School, High School editions).

Together,
these women hope to “light
a fire for literacy.”
Their presentation might be:
• a 20-60 minute talk to inspire you to use the power of stories to teach
•
an hour or two of strategies to motivate “gifted” or “challenged” students
• a half- or full-day, hands-on workshop to provide tools to improve reading
comprehension
Whatever your literacy needs, Maroon and Old will tailor their presentations
to meet them.
This dynamic literacy trio will share their personal stories, their humor, their
40 years of friendship, their teaching talent, and their passion!
